Governor's School for the Arts
Students interested in applying to participate in the Governor's School for the Arts may visit their website HERE.
GSA auditions promising high school sophomores and juniors in nine different arts disciplines: Architecture, Creative Writing, Dance, Drama, Instrumental Music, Musical Theatre, New Media, Visual Art and Vocal Music. For 3 solid weeks, the students live, breathe, eat and sleep the arts. It's a thrilling, often life-changing experience, as they meet new friends, explore their creativity, and discover new things about who they are and who they can be in the future.
On a smaller scale than GSA's summer program, ArtShops provide a similar immersion experience. The purpose of these ArtShops is to provide high school freshmen, sophomores and juniors with the opportunity to spend a day in a facility close to their hometown in a hands-on arts enrichment opportunity. Workshops are conducted by the region's most outstanding teaching artists in nine arts disciplines. ArtShops can help students prepare for their auditions for GSA, as well as learn about other arts opportunities in their area. Parents and teachers are informed of the specifics of the summer program during an information session. There is a registration fee of $5.00 to supplement the overall cost of the ArtShop. Free and reduced lunch registrants have the opportunity to opt out of the registration fee.
